Hoevensa GT-13 - St. Croix, US Virgin Islands
Hovensa’s project team faced many challenges associated with designing in a refinery, including numerous engineering design standards and limited plant space. When fully operational, the project will provide the additional steam and power capacity required to operate the new low sulfur gas production unit in the Hovensa oil refinery.
The Kiewit team provided detailed design, procurement and performance testing (to be concluded upon owner completion of startup and commissioning) for the 25-megawatt steam cogeneration power plant with a GE Frame 5 combustion turbine, a Deltak single-pressure heat recovery steam generator and a selective catalytic reduction system with a carbon monoxide catalyst.
Kiewit worked closely with the owner to continually review and improve the extensive standards put forth by the owner to compensate for extremely tight available space within the Hovensa refinery. Members of the project team were proud to complete all piping isometrics, due to the design complexity and limited availability of space for routing.
Kiewit received top ratings from TIC International, Inc. on its risk and reward program at the Hovensa project. Throughout the project, Kiewit met or exceeded crucial benchmarks to earn nearly the maximum reward for exceptional work on a challenging project.
