Coteau Dragline Project
TIC was awarded the contract for the erection of a B-E Model 2570-W dragline with a 340’ boom and two 110-cubic-yard buckets. Working weight of the machine was 12.5 million lbs.
The project included construction of the boom erection piers and other boom fabrication structures. Specifications of the machine included an 80’ diameter base or “tub” with a 5,027 sf bearing area; a 54’ circle rail diameter with 100 rollers of 16”; 14 X 72’ walking shoes with 2,016 sf of combined bearing area capable of 8 1/2’ steps and a walking speed of approximately 0.15 MPH.
The machinery frame was 86 1/2 X 99 1/2’ with an upper frame girder depth of 12’. Electrical equipment included eight hoist and eight drag motors of 1,300 and 1,045 hp generator sets. The unit included a110” diameter hoist and drag drums and a 144” point sheave. The dragline had a maximum suspended load capacity of 525,000 lbs.
