Fripp Island Repair Bearings Inlet Bridge

The 1,990-foot-long Fripp Island Inlet Bridge was built in 1961 using simple spans of AASHTO precast girders. The bridge’s existing steel bearing assemblies were corroded and non-functional. TIC – The Industrial Company was awarded the project was to replace the existing bearings with new bearing assemblies. Existing steel bridge bearing pads were removed at fifty bents and replaced with elastomeric bearing pads and reinforced concrete shear keys. All work was performed with minimum impact to the traveling public.
